Random String Generator

Random strings of any length from letters, numbers, hex, Base58 or your own character set. For tokens, test data, codes and identifiers.

One tool, many character sets

Pick a length and a character set, and every character is drawn uniformly at random from that set. The presets cover the common cases: letters and numbers, letters only, lowercase with numbers, numbers only, hex and Base58, which removes 0, O, I and l. Choose “Custom set” to use exactly the characters you need.

The strength meter updates for whatever you choose, so you can see the entropy of a 6-digit code or a 64-character token at a glance.

Common uses

  • Coupon, invite and referral codes.
  • Test fixtures and placeholder data.
  • Session IDs, CSRF tokens and nonces, at 128 bits or more.
  • Short IDs for URLs, using Base58 to avoid confusing characters.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get a random string with only certain characters?

Choose “Custom set” under Characters and type the characters you want. Duplicates are removed and spaces are ignored.

Is this random enough for security tokens?

Yes, as long as the entropy shown is 128 bits or more. The characters come from the browser’s cryptographically secure generator.
